What are the stories which first made you fall in love with stories? This is the question at the heart of this week-long course on writing poetry and verse for children and young people led by award-winning writers and experienced tutors, Dean Atta and Nikita Gill. During the week you’ll be encouraged to take inspiration from memory, myth, and magic as you hone your voice, and develop your written and/or performance pieces. From immersing yourself in the beautiful natural surroundings of Tŷ Newydd, to discussing works by various authors, to revisiting your younger self from a place of compassion, the tutors will teach you the fundamentals of connecting with today’s young audiences.

The week will include group workshops and discussions, one-to-one tutorials, walks, readings, an informal spoken word poetry film night, and an array of playful and interactive writing exercises and prompts. You’ll leave feeling inspired and motivated and with a clearer sense of your authentic voice alongside a firmer understanding of the craft of writing poetry and verse for young audiences. So, join us for what will be a very special week of writing, dreaming, and exploring.
