Waste and Recycling
Recycling is of great importance to us at Tŷ Newydd and we kindly ask all guests to ensure that you also make every effort to follow the guidelines highlighted below.
In Gwynedd, we can recycle:
Paper – paper, news paper, magazines, office paper, junk mail, shredded paper, card.
Plastic and Cans – food and drink cans, foil, aerosols, plastic bottles, plastic pots, tubs and trays – yoghurt or butter pots, plastic containers for fruit and vegetables and meat trays, food and drink cartons – fruit juice or soup cartons.
Glass – glass bottles, glass jars.
Food waste – any type of food waste, cooked or raw e.g. fruit and vegetable peelings, cheese, bread, beans, meat, eggs, plate scraps, food passed its best before date, tea bags, fish etc. Please do not put liquids such as milk or oil in the bin.
We cannot currently recycle plastic bags and wrappers.
In the kitchen you’ll find a food waste caddy, recycling bins (three separate ones) and a general waste bin.
In your bedrooms, there are bins, clearly labelled to note which are general waste bins and which are recycling bins. Please help is to recycle correctly.
Drinking Water
Tŷ Newydd’s water supply is completely safe to drink, and is delicious (though we may be biased!). It can sometimes be difficult to fit a water bottle or glass under some of the taps in the bathroom sinks, therefore please feel free to grab a glass water bottle from the kitchen to fill and take to your room.
Pillows
If you’re lucky enough to have a double or king bed during your stay with us, you might not need all four pillows. If so, please leave any unused pillows to one side so our cleaning team knows to re-use them for the next guest, helping us to reduce our carbon footprint one room at a time.
Towels
We provide one large and one hand towel per guest. If you require a fresh set during the week, please return used towels to us in the morning so that we can wash and return them by the end of the day. Please ask in the office if you require this service.
What else do we do?
We try to be as sustainable as possible at Tŷ Newydd, that includes being mindful of where we buy our food produce from (prioritising local products where possible and using local suppliers such as the butcher, deli and local vegetable supplier). Our gardener, for example, leaves an entire section of the grounds un-mowed, trying to compensate for mowing the large garden behind the house. We use Who Gives a Crap toilet paper, which is plastic-free, and also use Faith in Nature products as toiletries. Sadly, we are limited in some areas due to Environmental Health Officer limitations e.g swapping clingfilm for beeswax wraps in the kitchen.
We’re always open to new ideas on how we can make an old, listed house – which is ever so difficult to make energy efficient – greener and more sustainable. Please do let us know if you have any suggestions!
