Tŷ Newydd is a Grade II* listed building, part of which dates back to the fifteenth century. However, renovations made to the building in 2005 has enabled access to the main areas of the historic house, grounds and outbuildings for wheelchair users and those with limited mobility.
There are two car parks at Tŷ Newydd, and two disabled parking spaces. From the main car park a level footpath leads all the way to the front door of the conservatory, a distance of approximately 15 metres. From there (the ground floor) access can be gained in a lift to the lower floor and through a door to the Hall where workshops are held and all meals are served. The lift also provides access to the basement floor (and accessible toilet), to a sitting area on the upper floor, and through a door to the Library. Most group sessions are held in the Hall or Library. From the lower floor, access can be gained to the gardens through a set of double doors.
From the upper car park, a gentle sloping path leads to the accessible bedroom. There is also a level path all the way around to the Reception door, a distance of approximately 40 metres.
Our accessible bedroom is situated to the front of Hafoty – our outbuilding just across the yard from the historic house. It is suitable for wheelchair users and those with limited mobility, with an accessible wet room next door fitted with a shower, washbasin and W.C. There is a second room, sharing this accessible bathroom, which is also suitable for those with limited mobility, or perfect for any personal assistants who wish to stay with you whilst you’re here at Tŷ Newydd.
