Literature Wales has received a £2,000 grant from The Sylvia Waddilove Foundation UK towards preservation work at Tŷ Newydd Writing Centre.
Built in the fifteenth century, Tŷ Newydd is a Grade II* listed building with a rich history. Famously re-designed in the 1940s by Clough Williams-Ellis for the former Prime Minister David Lloyd George, the house has seen many families passing through its doors over the centuries.
A recent Conservation Plan created for Tŷ Newydd by architects Purcell has highlighted works needed to conserve Tŷ Newydd’s most important features and to repair wear and tear. Literature Wales will continue to seek new opportunities and grants to fund Tŷ Newydd Conservation Plan’s schedule of work to ensure that the centre continues to be a fit for purpose creative and inspiring home for visiting writers.
