This is a course for intermediate and advanced-level Welsh learners who want to develop their craft in creative writing, whether in the form of short stories, dialogue, descriptions, radio drama or other forms. This course will provide an opportunity for participants to practice their Welsh conversation skills, however writing will be the main focus of the weekend. We will work both in groups and individually, and we’ll take short walks around Tŷ Newydd’s beautiful surroundings and engage in writing challenges to find inspiration.

Bethan speaks with a north-Walian accent though the course is suitable for learners from all corners of Wales and beyond. Please note that this course is not aimed towards entry nor foundation-level learners.

Weekend courses start during the late afternoon on Friday, and come to an end after lunch on Sunday.

Tutors

Bethan Gwanas

Bethan Gwanas has written over 40 books for children and adults, including the popular series for learners, Bywyd Blodwen Jones (Gomer). She’s also an editor, and an experienced creative writing tutor and a Welsh for adults tutor. She has won Tir na n-Og Awards for her books for YA, Llinyn Trôns (Y Lolfa, 2000) and Sgôr (Y Lolfa, 2002), and she was the inaugural winner of the T Llew Jones Memorial Prize for Gwylliaid (Gomer, 2014).

Dafydd Llewelyn

Once upon a time Dafydd was sensible and mature. Then he decided that was pretty boring and therefore grabbed pen and paper and started scribbling. Over the years he’s written for theatre, radio and television and been a script-editor and producer on shows such as Pobol y Cwm (BBC), Casualty (BBC), Lan a Lawr (Boom) and Stad (Cwmni Da and Cwmni Triongl). He’s also written children’s books and novels. One day he’ll return to being sensible and mature – but not quite yet.
