About
Tŷ Newydd Writing Centre is part of Literature Wales.
Literature Wales is the national company for the development of literature. We are a registered charity and are funded by the Arts Council of Wales. We work in Welsh, English and bilingually across Wales. We have an office in Cardiff and our headquarters are based in Llanystumdwy.
Literature Wales’ vision is a Wales where literature empowers, improves and brightens lives. We facilitate, fund, and directly deliver a literary programme across Wales. Our work includes inspiring communities through participation in literature, developing the skills and talents of writers, and celebrating Wales’ literary culture. Based on our understanding of the power of literature to transform and improve lives, we have chosen goals that reflect our ambition and aspirations for Wales. They align with the Seven Well-being Goals of the Well-being of Future Generations (Wales) Act 2015 to ensure that everything we do helps to achieve one or more of these goals.
Our goals are:
- Representation & Equality: addressing historical and structural inequalities in the sector and platforming diverse voices
- Health & Well-being: using the healing power of literature to support the well-being of our nation
- Climate Emergency: using the creative power of words to educate, challenge and inspire long-term change
- Participation: enabling more people in Wales to discover the joys of actively participating in literature, inspiring communities and increasing access to our work
- Writer Development: developing and support a skilled and visionary workforce in the literature sector, by providing opportunities, increasing potential, and championing fair employment practices
- Wales’ Literary Culture: celebrating the diverse range of contemporary writers and the literary heritage of Wales with the world by creating a platform for a literature which is more relevant and accessible to a wider audience.
- The Welsh-language: promoting the Welsh Language and celebrate our unique diverse Welsh culture by encouraging a thriving literary scene and opportunities to explore through literature.
