The Friends of Tŷ Newydd help us maintain our historic Grade II* listed house and grounds at Tŷ Newydd National Writing Centre and support our year-round programme.

It is a privilege to care for Tŷ Newydd, with its rich history, unique architecture, and inspiring setting, and to welcome the many writers and guests who visit each year to develop their craft. (You can find out more about the fascinating history of the house here.)

But as an ancient building Tŷ Newydd comes with responsibilities, and it costs over £400,000 annually to keep the doors open, to maintain the buildings and grounds, and sustain our programme.

Income from course fees and venue hire go a long way towards meeting this cost, and every time you book a course or retreat you are helping to support Tŷ Newydd. But we are committed to keeping our fees as low as we can to ensure the widest access, and this means even a sell-out programme leaves a deficit. Each year we need to raise an additional £110,000 through donations and grants to meet this shortfall.
