Do you have a novel or a collection of short stories in progress? Are you in need of time to focus on your work and creative and professional guidance to help you take it to the next level? Join renowned authors and experienced tutors, Emma Glass and Sophie Mackintosh for a week of group workshops and discussions, readings, creative prompts and bespoke one-to-one feedback. Whatever stage you have reached, together with the tutors, you’ll consider character, ways of building a compelling fictional world, narrative structure, the possibilities offered within language alongside new approaches to editing your work. You’ll also be joined by award-winning author Joe Dunthorne for a special online guest reader session which is sure to spark your imaginations.

By the end of the week, you can expect to have a more thorough understanding of concise, compelling, and contemporary writing, refreshed ideas, the confidence to experiment with form, structure and language, and a new attitude towards editing your work.

Tutors

Emma Glass

Emma Glass is a writer and children’s nurse from Wales, living and working in London. Her debut novel, Peach, was published by Bloomsbury in 2018. It has been translated into seven languages and was long-listed for the International Dylan Thomas Prize. Rest and Be Thankful was published in 2020 by Bloomsbury, and is in development for a film.

Sophie Mackintosh

Sophie Mackintosh is the author of novels The Water Cure (Hamish Hamilton, 2018), Blue Ticket (Hamish Hamilton, 2020) and Cursed Bread (Penguin, 2023). The Water Cure was longlisted for the 2018 Man Booker Prize. Her fiction, non-fiction and poetry have appeared in The New York Times, Granta, Dazed, Guardian, and The Stinging Fly, amongst others. In 2020 she was picked as ‘a face set to define the decade ahead’ by Vogue UK, alongside writers Jia Tolentino and Oyinkan Braithwaite. She has been writer-in-Residence at the Paris Writer’s Residency, Prague City of Literature, and Gladstone’s Library. www.sophiemackintosh.co.uk

Joe Dunthorne (Digital)

Joe Dunthorne was born and brought up in Swansea. His debut novel, Submarine (Penguin, 2011), was translated into twenty languages and made into an award-winning film. His second novel, Wild Abandon (Penguin, 2012), won the Society of Authors’ Encore Award. His latest is The Adulterants (Penguin, 2019). His first collection of poems, O Positive, was published by Faber & Faber in 2019. His work has been published in the New York Review of Books, London Review of Books, The Paris Review, McSweeney's, Granta, The Guardian and The Atlantic. He lives in London.
