Calling all horrible little slugs! ROALD DAHL’S REVOLTING RHYMERS competition is now open!

Literature Wales is delighted to be a partner in this brand new competition, part of the ongoing Roald Dahlcentenary celebrations. Roald Dahl is famous the world over for his larger than life characters, his strange tales and his wonderfully wacky poems, so why not try your hand at writing a revolting rhyme yourself?!

The competition is open to all primary school children. Enter your grossest, slimiest and most revolting rhyme, in Welsh or English, for a chance to win the most amazing prizes, including an iPad mini, prizes for your school, and even the chance for your rhyme to be published in an eBook.

We’re not the only ones who want to see you compete. English-language entries will be judged by the musician-author Tom Fletcher and our very own Anni Llŷn, Bardd Plant Cymru is judging the Welsh-language entries. You can watch them, and author-comedian David Walliams, discussing the competition in videos below. They can’t wait to read and judge filthome, whizzpopping, poisnowsely rhymes from you, revolting kiddles of Wales. You have until midnight Friday 21 October to compete.

Entries will be judging based on the following criteria:

• It must rhyme.
• It must be between 4-30 lines.
• It must involve at least one Roald Dahl character.
• It must be funny.
• It must also be revolting. This means it could be naughty, gross, outrageous, surprising, or a little bit rebellious.
