Course Types

Residential Courses
At Tŷ Newydd we believe that the course experience is unique and we take great pride in our hospitality and informal atmosphere. Whether you attend a weekend or a week-long course, the tutors will offer advice and lead workshops to help you explore and develop specific aspects of your writing.

For the majority of courses you’ll share the space with up to 14 writers. You’ll enjoy group workshop sessions, individual tutorials and readings. But there’s always time for your own writing, for walking and exploring.

You will also help out in the kitchen as part of a group for one evening of your stay.

Find out more about ‘a typical week at Tŷ Newydd‘.

Retreats
Our week-long retreats, set in the stunning surroundings of rural north Wales, offer the perfect creative escape. Find tranquillity on woodland or beach walks, or meet the locals at the village inn. Take inspiration from the spectacular sea views over Cardigan Bay, share ideas over dinner, or simply sit back and relax in the cosy library.

Everyone will have a room of their own, and homemade meals, made with local ingredients, will be prepared for you. Wherever you are on your writing journey, we will provide you with a calm creative environment where you have the space and freedom to fulfil your goals.

Tutored Retreats

Some of retreats are tutored, meaning there’ll be tutored elements such as workshops or one-to-one tutorials. The exact nature of the tutored retreat will be detailed in each individual course listing.

Day Courses
Our non-residential day courses provide the perfect treat for those seeking to try out a new genre, style or craft. A light lunch and refreshments are included in the course cost.

Digital Course

Complimenting our residential courses, we also run digital courses. These vary in time commitments, but usually span various evenings to form a short course exploring a particular genre or theme. Our digital courses are taught via Zoom.
