Update on Tŷ Newydd Writing Centre
1 May 2021
The Nant Writers’ Retreat Cottage at Tŷ Newydd Writing Centre is now open and receiving bookings for retreats. As a recently renovated two-bedroomed self-catering cottage, set in a peaceful and quiet location, it’s the perfect space for writers to get away and focus on their writing. Bookings are very busy over the summer, but there are plenty of availability from September onwards.
The programme of residential writing courses at Tŷ Newydd is renowned throughout the world, and in recent years we’ve welcomed guests from New Zealand to Canada to all over Europe, all eager to enhance and develop their creative writing skills. Each year more than 400 people from Wales and beyond take part in our immersive writer development programmes at the centre. Our national writing centre takes Wales to the world and the world to Wales.
We are working hard to ensure that we can return in 2022 with a full and carefully planned programme of exciting and diverse courses. Meeting new people and sharing the creative writing process with others are integral to the Tŷ Newydd experience, and we look forward to being able to do so again in a safe, creative and inclusive way. Offering opportunities to under-represented and emerging writers is a key priority for Literature Wales. With bursaries and ringfenced free spaces we will continue to make sure that writers from low income and under-represented backgrounds can experience the magic of Tŷ Newydd.
In the meantime, we hope to be able to welcome retreats for smaller groups before the end of the year, in addition to our current offer of retreats for individual writers. We are also looking to work within our local community to provide a space to meet and host activities. Please contact us if you are interested in bringing a group to the centre. You might be a local charity, a university or a college group, a writing or a reading club, or a group of artists working on a collaborative project – we can discuss your need, and offer options for a bespoke and safe retreat.
Keep an eye out as well for our new programme of virtual taster courses which will run in the autumn. These often book up very quickly and include a range of talented tutors working across genres and themes.

We hope to see you in our beautiful home in Llanystumdwy very soon. Until then, stay safe and keep writing.
