Zoë Brigley is a Welsh-American poet, editor and educator. She is Senior Lecturer in English at The Ohio State University, Editor of Poetry Wales, and Joint Poetry Editor at Seren Books. She is also a founding editor of MODRON, a magazine of writing about nature and the ecological crisis. Zoë is the author of three poetry collections with Bloodaxe Books: The Secret, Conquest and Hand & Skull, all of which were selected as UK Poetry Book Society Recommendations. Her nonfiction includes Notes from a Swing State (Parthian Books, 2019), and her work has been recognised by the Eric Gregory Award, the Forward Prize and the Swansea University International Dylan Thomas Prize. She has extensive experience teaching and mentoring poets, and working editorially with writers at different career stages, from those developing a first pamphlet or collection to established poets.
Editing and Submitting your Poetry
Are you looking to submit your poetry for the first time? Are you looking to better understand and craft your creative voice? Do you want to learn how to create a concise and cohesive body of work? Join us for a replenishing, instructive and motivational week of poetry writing and editing with the multi-award-winning poets and joint poetry editors of Seren Books, Rhian Edwards and Zoë Brigley.
During the week, Zoë and Rhian will run group workshops on editing your poems, collating your poetry into collections and pamphlets, and will be on-hand to offer tips and advice on how to best pitch your work to magazines and publishers for consideration. A one-to-one tutorial with Zoë and Rhian will be offered to each participant and you will be invited to send a up to two poems each ahead of the course for comments and editorial advice.

Rhian Edwards
Rhian Edwards is a multi-award-winning poet and poetry co-editor of Seren Books. Her first collection Clueless Dogs (Seren Books, 2012) won Wales Book of the Year Award 2013, the Roalnd Mathias Prize for Poetry 2013 and Wales Book of the Year People’s Choice 2013. It was also shortlisted for the Forward Prize for Best First Collection 2012. Rhian’s second collection The Estate Agent’s Daughter (Seren Books, 2020) was a National Poetry Day Recommended Read for 2020. Rhian has two pamphlets of poems Parade the Fib (Tall-Lighthouse), which was awarded the Poetry Book Society Pamphlet Choice for autumn 2008 and Brood (Seren Books), a pamphlet of illustrated bird poems. Rhian is also the last winner of the John Tripp Award for Spoken Poetry, winning both the Judges and Audience award. Rhian’s poems have appeared in The Guardian, Times Literary Supplement, Poetry Review, New Statesman, Spectator, Poetry London, Poetry Wales, Arete, London Magazine, Stand, Planet and New Welsh Review.

Abeer Ameer’s poems have appeared widely in journals and anthologies including Acumen, Poetry Wales, Planet, Atrium, Magma, The Rialto, New Welsh Review, The Poetry Review and Long Poem Magazine. She is a recipient of the Literature Wales Mentoring Scheme for 2020.Her debut poetry collection, Inhale/Exile, in which she shares stories from her Iraqi heritage, was published by Seren Books in February 2021. Inhale/Exile was selected to the Wales Literature Exchange Bookcase for 2021 and was shortlisted for Wales Book of the Year in 2022.
