As an old Grade II* listed building and site, rooms at Tŷ Newydd differ in terms of size, location and facilities. When booking on a residential course, you can select the type of preferred accommodation – which will hopefully make our courses affordable to more guests, whilst also ensuring extra space and comfort to those looking for something slightly more special.
Rooms are allocated on a first come first serve basis within the tiers. If you are visiting with a friend or a partner and wish to share a room, please contact us for options. Also, if you don’t see your preferred accommodation type as an option when trying to book a course, please contact us to discuss.
These four en-suite rooms are located in the main house, and include both Master Bedrooms – one formerly occupied by David Lloyd George, and the other by Frances Stevenson, his second wife. The other two large spacious rooms occupy half each of the loft, and include newly refurbished bathrooms. Our loft rooms (picture below) now have double beds, but we’re yet to update our official photos(!) Please note that all four of our large rooms are up a flight (or two) of stairs.
The en-suite Garden Room is situated in the old annex. It has a king-sized bed, and its own entrance overlooking the wild garden and the adjacent sheep field.
Our Dafydd y Garreg Wen bedroom is on the ground floor in the main house, close to the kitchen. A light room with a double bed and a big desk, it has a shared bathroom (sharing with one potential guest, see room below next door).
The Ystafell Ddirgel room is also in the main house, and has a desk and a low double bed. A cosy, low-ceilinged room with beautiful features, it has a basin and a WC. A shared bathroom (see room above) is available for access to the shower.
Y Coetiws is in the new annex, and has a large king size bed. A beautiful room in the summer especially, the room shares a wet room with one potential guest.
All our four small rooms are located in the old annex – with all of them, except for one, sharing a bathroom with one other potential guest. They all have writing desks, and are comfortable and warm. Our en-suite in room 13 has been recently upgraded, but we’re yet to take a new photo(!).
Our on-site retreat cottage, Nant, is often booked by individual writers separate to our course programme. However, if Nant happens to be available during your course, and you fancy treating yourself to somewhere more luxurious – please contact us for more details. Do note that Nant has a shared bathroom.
Refurbished in 2019, Nant is a two-bedroomed cottage with a comfortable kitchen-dining room area with its own front door.
